Readiness Associates official to speak about workplace violence in healthcare industry

Pearson will give presentation at Nevada convention

The national field operations director of Readiness Associates, which prepares healthcare organizations to respond to man-made and natural disasters, will speak about workplace violence at a conference in Stateline, Nevada.

Kathleen Pearson will make her presentation Sept. 13 at the 2018 Nevada Health Care Association “Quality in Action” Annual Convention at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino at Lake Tahoe. Pearson has more than three decades of experience as a leader and facilitator of safety and preparedness training programs. She holds multiple trainer certifications from organizations including the American Red Cross and the American Heart Association.

"RA's proud to present to the NVHCA on what has become a growing negative trend in the healthcare industry – workplace violence: from patients, family members, coworkers and also terrorist threats," said Mike Boardman, CEO of Readiness Associates. "We are here to provide 'confidence through preparation' with administrators, nurses and everyone who might be at risk in these environments."

The Nevada Health Care Association is a nonprofit organization established in 1974 to provide leadership, support, education and advocacy for its members, while working with them to improve the quality of care in Nevada’s skilled nursing and other post-acute care settings.

Workplace violence is increasing at an alarming rate in healthcare. According to recent U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data, more than half of all incidents occur in the healthcare and social assistance (including child care and home care) industry. During one 21-month period, more than 100 healthcare facilities across the country reported nearly 11,000 injuries attributable to workplace violence.
